Flumequin is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones. Flumequin has a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. The mechanism of antimicrobial action is due to inhibition of the active enzyme DNA gyrase, which is the main factor in the catalysis of DNA synthesis in the nucleus of the microbial cell, resulting in a rapid bactericidal effect. Flumequin is active against gram-negative bacteria E. coli, Salmonella spp., Proteus spp., Pseudomonas spp., Klebsiella spp., Aerobacter spp., Pasteurella spp., Bordetella spp., Haemophilus spp., Enterobacter spp., Vibrio spp. Cytophaga spp., As well as gram-positive bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus spp. and Diplococcus spp.

In adult ruminants, its absorption in the digestive tract is insignificant (about 10%). Flumequin reaches the optimal therapeutic concentration in blood plasma and tissues within 30 minutes after application. After oral administration of a dose of 12 mg per 1 kg of body weight, flumequin reaches its optimal therapeutic concentration in blood plasma and soft tissues within half an hour. The maximum concentration in blood plasma is observed in less than 2 hours. Flumequin is excreted in urine and faeces within 24 hours.
